Diamond and Pearl (and Platinum) were the first games on the Nintendo DS, giving the developers more power and more space to work with. The Sinnoh region is last place based on locations in Japan. After this, they spread out at started placing their regions around the world. Fun fact: the Sinnoh region is the only region that doesn’t have a five letter name!

The Region Itself
The Sinnoh region is the best region we’ve talked about so far geography-wise. It has many memorable locales and events that happen to the point where it feels real (at least compared to the previous instalments). It’s also a lot colder than other regions. Kanto and Johto were mostly standard planes and forests, and Hoenn was a bit more tropical and coastal. Sinnoh, on the other hand, is VERY snowy. It may not look like it from the map, but a majority of the map is at least low temperature climate.
Okay enough about the cold dirt. It’s character time.
The People of Sinnoh
To be honest, Sinnoh has really forgettable characters. I really only remember a few, and those few are amazing! The rest, though… not so much. So I had to pick out five of my favourites instead of the first five I clicked on.

Barry is your rival in these games. He is a high-energy, highly motivated kid who often runs around to get where he needs to go (and that results in him running into things (and people) because he can’t stop himself). I really like Barry’s design. His hair waving out makes his hair unique, and they give him a Mickey Mouse quality to it in the mobile game Pokemon Masters (in the sense that his hair tufts are always facing the camera, regardless of Barry’s head position). I also really like the orange and green palette to his shirt and scarf.

Gardenia is, if it wasn’t obvious, a Grass type Gym Leader. She lives in Eterna City. She is a cheery and energetic trainer. I get her confused with Erika a lot, but that’s just because they have somewhat similar designs. I will point out though; I don’t like Gardenia’s hair. It just doesn’t make sense to me! It throws the whole design off and it just doesn’t sit well with me. The rest of her looks great and unique and creative but her hair is so strange.
Score: 6/10

Candice is the Ice type Gym Leader hailing from Snowpoint City. She’s pretty energetic for someone who lives in one of the coldest places in Sinnoh. You’d think she’d be cool, calm, and collected. She’s one of those people who doesn’t care about the cold, though. As you can see, she wears her coat around her waist. Her design is simple, but effective. It’s not one of my favourite designs, but I keep thinking of her whenever I think of Ice type trainers.

Cyrus is the leader of Team Galactic, the antagonist team of this region. His goal is to take control of Palkia, Dialga, and Giratina to use their powers (space, time, and distortion respectively) to recreate the world in his image. A little more menacing than other evil teams’ objectives, huh? His a little bit of a troubled guy, so it’s sort of justified… if you can justify wanting to destroy everything on earth just to rebuild it your way.
Score: 7/10

Cynthia is the Sinnoh region’s Champion, and is the first and only female Champion as of now. She may seem kind of edgy and cold in all that black, but she is actually a very laidback and caring person. She loves ice cream and goes on vacation in Unova so often she has her own beach house in Undella Town! She helps you out a lot across your journey, and even tries to assist you in stopping Team Galactic.
