The Hoenn region has many Pokemon that are many fans’ favourites. I like a majority of them, but none of them are super high up on my list. Once again, I got a random generator and got eight Pokemon to review. Let’s go!

Mudkip is the Water starter in the Hoenn region, and the starter I chose on my journey. Karla Baez described Mudkip as an “unstoppable little creature.” It seems as though that is the case. Mudkip is adorable and it has a really nice colour palette! It was pretty unique at the time for a Water Pokemon to have orange so present in the design.
Score: 7/10

Ludicolo is a very happy little tree monster thing. It dances constantly and is in a good mood 24/7. It’s design is inspired by Mexican clothes, namely the poncho and sombrero. It’s dancing isn’t necessarily based on anything, but in the anime it sometimes break dances. It’s design, while unique, isn’t anything super special. It’s a unique typing, but the water doesn’t really shine through as much as I would like.
Score: 6/10

Shedinja is a very interesting and unique Pokemon. It has a unique typing, and a unique ability. See, Shedinja is the result of a Nincada shedding it’s skin and evolving into Ninjask. Shedinja is the possessed husk of Nincada. That’s the reason it is so frail. It only has one HP! To counteract this, it has the ability Wonder Guard, which makes it so it can only take damage from moves that are super effective against it. I really like Shedinja, and it’s one of my favourite Pokemon in general.
Score: 9/10

Wailord is the biggest boi in the world. It’s bigger than a brachiosaurus from head to tail! Other than being the largest Pokemon ever, though, there’s not much to write home about. It’s design is simple and clean, which is a good thing. I’d just expect the design to be a little bit more for how gargantuan it is.
Score: 5/10

Absol is the harbinger of distaster. Or, at least that’s what people say. In reality, he’s much like the moth man of real legend. Not the bringer of doom, but rather the messenger. It warns people of incoming disasters but appearing in the areas where something bad will happen. I like Absol’s design. It’s simple and otherworldly, adding to the mystery. I especially like the Yin-Yang symbolism on its head.
Score: 8/10

Duskull is a spooky boi. It’s skull and bone on it’s back symbolise death, but it’s just another spirit! It has a single orb inside of its head, which act as its pupils. I really like that trait! I haven’t seen it done before. Also how it looks like it’s wearing a cloak with its hands behind its back. It’s just a doofy-toothed spectre!
Score: 6/10

Spinda’s dizziness is unrivalled! The thing is, it’s so dizzy it swirls up its spots. There are around 4 billion combinations of Spinda, as its spots are unique to each individual. They can be on the ears, the mouth, the eyes. There’s even a possibility it has no spots at all. Spinda is a simple design, but I like that. It leaves room for the spot gimmick to shine. I really like the swirly eyes and ears.
Score: 7/10

Deoxys is a mythical Pokemon who came to earth on a comet. It’s a virus-alien thing, and can transform into different forms to adapt to the situation. There’s its Normal Forme (top-left), then the Attack Forme (top-right), the Defense Forme (bottom-left), and the Speed Forme (bottom-right). I really like the orange/blue palette, and the way the Normal Forme’s arms coil around like DNA. It’s just a really solid designed Pokemon and you can tell a lot of time and thought went into this Pokemon.
